Vision Care for Homeless People (VCHP) is on a drive for new trustees to support its work in providing free sight tests and spectacles to homeless people across the UK.

The charity is particularly keen to hear from people interested in IT and fundraising, it said.

The role of a trustee with the charity involves meeting in London a number of times a year in order to plan the smooth running of services at the clinics that the charity runs in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Brighton and Exeter.

Explaining the call for new trustees, optometrist and chair of VCHP, Elaine Styles, said: “We have set ourselves an ambitious target of opening a number of new clinics within the next 12 months and are looking for trustees with drive and commitment to help us to achieve this in some of the most deprived centres in the UK.”

In addition, the charity is also seeking volunteer optometrists to help run its Brighton-based clinic on Thursdays and the Birmingham clinic on Mondays.
