A local convenience store in Surrey has been recognised by Vision Aid Overseas (VAO) for its ongoing fundraising efforts.

Optometrist and honorary member of the AOP, Nigel Burnett Hodd, presented the certificate to Woldingham One-Stop shop owners, Mukesh and Minal Amin, who, since introducing the collection box 12 months ago, have raised around £300 for VAO.

During this time, the shop owners have actively engaged with local residents about the charity and encouraged people to “pop their spare change” into the collection box. VAO highlights that if other local shops followed suit, thousands could be raised.

Mr Burnett Hodd helped introduce the collection box to the convenience store and encourages other practices to do the same in their area. He commented: “I would encourage every colleague to make the effort and contact VAO for a couple of collection boxes and start collecting. While I can’t help on the ground as it were, I can help by fundraising.”
