Abby Peters faced her fear of heights to raise funds for Vision Aid Overseas

Optom abseils for charity

Optometrist Abby Peters has abseiled 400ft down Northampton's lift tower, raising £1700 for charity.

In taking part in the challenge to raise funds for Vision Aid Overseas (VAO), Ms Peters faced her fear of heights.

Reflecting on the abseil, she told OT: “I have always been scared of heights so to face my fears head on was a great personal achievement for me. I feel very passionate about the work that Vision Aid Overseas does, so that, and all the donations and support from friends, family and colleagues gave me the confidence I needed to do this.”

Ms Peters, who works at Specsavers in Broughton, will now prepare for a two week trip to Zambia with three other Specsavers employees as part of a VAO outreach project. During the trip, Ms Peters and colleagues will travel to different locations every day to set up eye clinics and offer free sight tests and spectacles to those in need.
