Twiggy to support Vision Aid Overseas during BBC 4 Radio appeal

Twiggy

Supermodel and actress Twiggy is supporting Vision Aid Overseas (VAO) by lending her voice to the charity’s BBC Radio 4 appeal.

Speaking about the appeal, Twiggy said: “I can’t imagine what it must be like for people in poor countries who can’t get glasses and can’t read or do their work.”

Scheduled to air on Sunday 10 April at 7.55am and 9.25pm, Twiggy will share with the radio station’s estimated one million listeners the story of Yisimash, a 28-year-old nurse in Ethiopia who has benefited from a sight test and spectacles.

The appeal will be repeated on Thursday 14 April at 2.25pm.

VAO is present in five countries across Africa. Optometrist and dispensing opticians volunteer on two-week projects for the charity throughout the year. During these trips they help establish vision centres, provide training to eye care workers and deliver sight tests and spectacles through outreach services to people living in rural areas.

Listeners are encouraged to support VAO by visiting the Radio 4 website, or calling 0800 404 8144.
