Customers of online CL retailer help raise funds for Fight for Sight

Vision Direct UK raises 3k for charity
Online contact lens retailer Vision Direct UK has raised £3,000 for eye research charity Fight for Sight through a customer initiative.

Having selected Fight for Sight as its first official charity partner, it pledged its support through the charity’s #BlinkWinkThink campaign.

The campaign urged people to take a selfie-style photo with one eye on show and the other cleverly disguised, covered or winking. People were asked to upload their pictures via Instagram, Facebook and Twitter while nominating a further three people to take on the #BlinkWinkThink challenge.

For every customer who took part in the campaign from 23 February until the end of March, Vision Direct UK donated £3. Customers were required to include @Visiondirect_UK and the hashtag #BlinkWinkThink with their post.

The selfies featured on Vision Direct UK’s ‘wall of thanks,’ and customers were automatically entered into a prize draw for the chance to win a Kindle Fire HDX tablet and a £50 Amazon gift voucher.

Director of fundraising at Fight for Sight, Catherine Woodhead, said: “Thank you to Vision Direct UK and all the #BlinkWinkThink participants who’ve supported the campaign. Losing your sight can have a devastating effect on someone’s life. By taking a quick selfie people have helped to support pioneering eye research, which will help the fight against sight loss.”

Director of marketing at Vision Direct UK, Ashley Mealor, added: “We were delighted that our first official charity partnership with Fight for Sight was a success and that we and our customers could help support such a worthy cause.”
