Jill Cheney
OT is sad to report the death of Jill Cheney, a “well-loved and respected” optometrist and treasurer for the Wolverhampton Local Optical Committee (LOC), at the age of 61.

Prab Boparai, optometrist and chair of the Wolverhampton LOC, paid tribute to her colleague.

“Jill was born in Dewsbury in 1958 and graduated from Bradford University in 1981, qualifying in Coventry with an independent opticians in 1982.

“She worked for Dollond and Aitchison before leaving to enjoy motherhood. Later, she became a private practice owner, but found her niche on joining Specsavers, Wolverhampton, in 1997 where she stayed until her last days.

“Jill was of a very quiet, calm and composed nature. She inspired and mentored so many successful optometrists along her journey towards senior optometrist and lead Minor Eye Conditions Service (MECS) co-ordinator.

“She was a dedicated and a loyal LOC member for over ten years, most of which she served as a treasurer.

“Jill was an exceptionally committed and passionate optometrist with a very loyal patient following. Her diligent and disciplined approach towards her optometry profession is difficult to match.

“Jill will be missed dearly by her friends, colleagues, patients and the optometry fraternity at large. Our heartfelt condolences to her family.”

Ms Cheney leaves behind her optometrist husband Noel, her parents, her children James and Victoria, and grandchildren Megan and Vinnie.

The Wolverhampton LOC has set up a collection in honour of Ms Cheney, with donations in aid of The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.
