Optometrist, chief executive and founder of the Hakim Group, Imran Hakim, has been recognised at national business awards ceremony.

Mr Hakim was named a joint winner of the Scale-Up award at the EY Entrepreneur of the Year Awards at a ceremony in London.

The awards celebrate successful and trailblazing businesses that make a positive impact on their society and the economy.

Described by the organisers as “world’s most prestigious business award for entrepreneurs,” EY Entrepreneur of the Year celebrates people who are building and leading successful, growing and dynamic businesses, recognising them through regional, national and global awards programmes in more than 60 countries.

Speaking after the prize giving ceremony, the judges said that Mr Hakim “demonstrated true entrepreneurial spirit, starting his career buying and selling computers when he was 15.”

The judges added that they recognised Mr Hakim’s determination and ambition, noting how the Hakim Group has “thrived to have over 100 practices within 15 years,” and were “inspired by his current pace of weekly acquisitions, reflecting the long-term potential of the business.”

Previous EY Entrepreneur of the Year winners include Stelios Haji-Ioannou, who founded the low-cost airline easyJet, and Richard Reed, one of the founding partners of Innocent Drinks.

Speaking after the awards ceremony, Mr Hakim said: “When you get a group of people that share the same vision and are doing it together as a collective, great things happen. As I walked up to collect this award amongst the very best businesses in the UK, I felt humbled by the dedication and proud of the commitment shown every day by our many teams. I am immensely proud of all our practice teams and everyone at Hakim HQ.”
