Optometry students from three UK universities will come together in March for a charity challenge to raise funds for Vision Care for Homeless People (VCHP).

Third year undergraduates from Anglia Ruskin University, the University of Bradford and City, University of London will battle against each other in the Optoversity challenge day (23 March), which is designed to test their optometry knowledge and diagnostic skills.

The event was established two years ago by optometrist Karmelo Modina and is being organised by Outoftheboxoptics.

The day includes practical Objective Structured Clinical Examinations, an ocular picture quiz and an optometry version of the description board game Articulate.

Speaking about establishing the event, Mr Karmelo, who supervises students at Anglia Ruskin University one day a week, said: “I thought it would be a great way to bring together optometry students and to help prepare them for working life in the best way possible.”

Last year students raised £2788 for VCHP.
