Developing CET materials

What is your current job?

I am the optical engagement manager at The Brain Tumour Charity. My role involves developing CET materials and resources to help optometrists aid early and accurate diagnosis. I help promote our HeadSmart campaign, which aims to inform the public and healthcare professionals about the signs and symptoms of brain tumours in children and young people.

If you could change one thing about the way optometrists work, what would it be?

Longer testing times so that we can provide a more thorough explanation of the tests and results to patients and improve the overall patient experience.

What are you most proud of?

The diverse experiences I have gained during the different chapters of my career. My job has allowed me to travel the world, work with patients in clinics and give presentations at conferences.

What is your most cringe-worthy career moment?

During my hospital placement, while going to collect a patient, I tripped and slid across the waiting area as I was saying the patient’s name.

How do you manage a work/life balance? 

I focus on being productive during working hours and try to employ the same mindset out of work. I try to give my full attention to whatever I am doing. 

What do you do to unwind?

I love spending time with my family and friends and constantly try and tick off items from my bucket list. The most recent adventure was kayaking in the Fjords in Gudvangen, Norway. 

You have won the OT lottery. What are the first three things you would do with the £1m jackpot?

Pay off my mortgage. Donate to charities that are close to me. Travel around South America with my husband.

Do you have your next holiday booked? 

Not yet, but I am hoping to go to New York later this year.
