Independent practice owner Jane Gray has become the first optometrist to win the Optima Dry Eye Award for her studies on the eye condition.
Ms Gray, who owns a practice in East Yorkshire and works as a senior optometrist in general clinics at Goole Hospital, was presented with the award for her work on the Management of Dry Eye module. The award, which is sponsored by German pharmaceutical firm Optima, is worth €1,000 (Euros).
Expressing her happiness at winning the award, Ms Gray told OT: “The tear film module was one of the best I have studied. To receive this award in recognition of the work produced was a very pleasant surprise as I had an excellent group of fellow students who made the contact days a great learning environment and fun, supported by excellent tutors. I probably should spend some of the award on my further studies, but also feel I should treat my husband Clive, who supports me and is understanding of the time spent studying.”
A former graduate of Aston University, Ms Gray also holds the role of clinical governance lead within the East Yorkshire Local Optical Committee, and is a training coach and facilitator for the College of Optometrists.
Committed to continuing to enhance her knowledge, Ms Gray has started studying Glaucoma Level 2.
