Dr Ravi C Bakaraju (pictured left) has been appointed head of research and development at the Brien Holden Vision Institute (BHVI).
Previously deputy head of research and development, Dr Bakaraju moves into the role following the retirement of Dr Paul Erickson in mid-2017.
Speaking about the appointment, CEO of the BHVI, Professor Kovin Naidoo said that it was a “natural evolution” for the organisation.
“Ravi is an outstanding researcher and leader, who is already making a mark as a scientist. He has the support of a team who are among the leaders in the world in their areas,” Professor Naidoo said.
As head of research & development, Dr Bakaraju will contribute to strategic direction and be responsible for the operational leadership for the development of translational research and innovation platforms in the areas such as contact lenses, spectacles, intraocular lenses and instrumentation.
