Wiseman Prize awarded

Lab technician Adrian Baxter was recognised for high marks in his optical manufacturing exams during a recent reception of the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers (WCSM).

Hosted at Apothecaries' Hall last week (19 October), Mr Baxter was awarded the Wiseman Memorial Prize for his "expertise" in year two of the SMC Tech Level 4 examinations.

Speaking about the qualification, Mr Baxter said: "I just love studying and the course reignited my passion for learning. I got a lot out of the training, particularly understanding about physics and some quite abstract concepts. The qualification has given me the knowledge and confidence to explain to colleagues some of the questions we face on a daily basis in practice."

During the ceremony, new master of the WCSM, Felicity Harding, praised students who had achieved qualifications in optical manufacturing and practice support knowledge.

"You are our future, and will in turn pass on these skills to others," she said.
