Researchers at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) are seeking to fill a fully funded PhD studentship for a study on the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease.
The project, entitled Improving the screening efficiency of tests for Alzheimer’s disease using eye movement analysis, will examine the possibility of improving the efficacy of screening tests for Alzheimer’s using eye movement data and low-cost eye-tracking devices.
The project is based within the Department of Life Sciences and is due to begin in October. Lead researcher on the study, Dr Laura Sweeney, explained to OT: “The key aim of the project is to determine eye movement criterion to identify Alzheimer’s patients, and to develop a low-cost eye-tracking test, to be used in combination with other tests, when screening for Alzheimer’s disease in order to improve diagnostic accuracy.”
The studentship is suitable for a qualified optometrist with a keen interest in working with clinical populations and an interest in developing technical research skills, Dr Sweeney said.
