A new eye clinic will open at the University of Huddersfield with the support of independent optical group, Valli Opticians.

University Valli Opticians will offer staff, students and members of the public a full eye examination service, including sight tests, prescriptions, dispensing for spectacles, and contact lenses.

Managing director of Valli Opticians, Moin Valli, highlighted the commitment of the optical group to engaging with the community through local initiatives.

“We are delighted to be collaborating in this innovative way with the University of Huddersfield, which will shape the future of optometry students by giving them substantial real-life clinical and commercial experiences of working in a proper optometry practice,” he said.

Head of the optometry and vision sciences department at Huddersfield University, Professor John Siderov, shared that the new clinic will enhance the student experience as well as provide placement and employment experiences for students.

The department was created in 2019, offering a BSc (Hons) in optometry through a purpose-built facility as part of a 18.2 million development.
