Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) has launched a contact lens fitting course for dispensing opticians looking to expand their expertise.

The contact lens optician postgraduate certificate is open to dispensing opticians who have been qualified for at least two years.

The intensive one-year course enables students to study while working. Its first cohort of 16 students begin studying in September.

The course incorporates contact lens practice at least one day a week supported by a General Optical Council (GOC)-registered supervisor and residential periods at ARU’s Cambridge campus.

The ARU has provisional approval from the GOC to run the first year of the course with a small group as a pilot.

Once fully approved by the optical regulator, successful students will be registered with the GOC as a contact lens optician.
