New course at Moorfields for preregs

Moorfields Eye Hospital is holding a new course designed for pre-registration optometrists preparing for their Stage 2 visit.

The course runs 2–3 February 2016 and is suitable for both community and hospital-based pre-regs. It will be run by senior supervising optometrists working at the hospital and will also include contributions from College of Optometrists examiners who will share their valuable examination tips and techniques.

Senior optometrist, Jay Varia, education lead at Moorfields Eye Hospital, said: “Hospitals provide excellent education opportunities, which we are happy to be able to make available to optometrists in training.”

Mr Varia added: “Moorfields Eye Hospital is delighted to be able to offer this new course and hopes it will be a regular feature in its annual education calendar.”

The course consists of lectures, case reviews, patient workshops and peer review discussion. There will be a strong interactive and practical theme to the course, to help delegates with their patient interaction and clinical decision-making.

There will also be the opportunity to obtain some of the required clinical competencies over the duration of the course.

The course fee is £220, which includes all the course materials plus lunch and refreshments. Places are limited and expected to be in high demand, so early booking is advised.

Moorfields will also be hosting additional courses in 2016 covering dry eye (May), cataract (June) and referral refinement (October). Two courses will also be held in December 2016, on gonioscopy and therapeutics.
