Updated series of cataract lectures being launched

Online courses to support delivery of enhanced eye care services in England and Wales

Updated series of cataract lectures being launched

A new, updated series of cataract lectures is being launched by the Wales Optometry Postgraduate Education Centre (WOPEC), in conjunction with the Local Optical Committee Support Unit (LOCSU).

The lectures form part of a suite of online courses, which are designed to support the delivery of enhanced eye care services in local areas across England and Wales.

The updated cataract lectures replace the previous LOCSU cataract online course from 9 November, and can be accessed on the WOPEC website by requesting a promotional code from LOCSU.

Other WOPEC/LOCSU courses available include the minor eye conditions service (MECS), glaucoma, low vision and learning disabilities.

WOPEC also provide practical assessments for glaucoma and MECS which gives commissioning groups evidence of competency in these areas.

Co-Director of WOPEC, Nik Sheen (pictured), said: “We try to ensure that the learning material is evidence-based but also relevant to everyday practice and our unique, dedicated postgraduate clinical facility means our students can put into practice what they have learned.”

WOPEC is located within the School of Optometry and Vision Sciences at Cardiff University and offers a variety of postgraduate taught programmes for practitioners in specialist skills, such as glaucoma, medical retina and emergency eye care.
