How to get involved

Help make our roads safer by sharing our campaign resources with friends and family

We’ve put together some resources to help you support our Don’t swerve a sight test campaign in 2022 including a briefing you can send to your local MP.

The easiest way to get involved is to download our campaign pack which includes social media images, an animated video, an information leaflet, briefing for MPs and decision makers and more.

Making the most of your campaign materials

There are lots of ways to get involved in the Don’t swerve a sight test campaign. To help you get started we’ve compiled some tips.

Social media images and animated video

Social media is a great way to spread the word - you can use the social media images and our animated video, along with a link to, www.aop.org.uk/dontswerve and using the hashtag #Dontswerve. Don’t forget to ask your friends and family to do the same.

The AOP will also be sharing more social media posts – find us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter.

Website banners and MPUs

If you have a blog or a personal website you can help promote the Don’t swerve a sight test campaign by uploading the MPU or banner and linking to www.aop.org.uk/dontswerve

They can be uploaded in the same way you would upload any image.

Patient leaflet

Use our leaflet on vision and driving to understand the sight requirements and what you need to do if you have any concerns about your vision. We always recommend that you visit an optometrist, at your local opticians, who can advise you. They can also complete the form, included in this leaflet, to confirm you have met the legal standard.

Template letter and briefing to MPs

The UK law on vision and driving falls below many European countries. We, along with two fifths of UK adults1, believe that the rules should be stricter and the law needs to change. If you feel the same, you can use our template letter and briefing to write to your local MP on the issue.

Remember, your MP can only act on behalf of their own constituents so it’s important, that you only write to your own MP and include your full address within any written correspondence you have with your MP.

You can find out who your MP is by entering your postcode here.
