These seminars will provide members with an opportunity to meet the AOP’s clinical and legal experts and gain a unique insight into how best to manage the many different risks associated with optometric practice.

These seminars are designed to provide the support and guidance needed to help protect yourself, your practice and your patients.

Please note that the legal seminars are running the same employment matters/regulatory content as 2019. You may not be eligible for the CET for this session if you have already attended. The clinical negligence session is new for 2020.

Clinical negligence: The sixth sense or spotting the plot twist?

Unusual clinical presentations can lead to civil negligence claims. This session will cover some of the more unusual cases the AOP legal team see to discuss if there were opportunities to detect them earlier.

Regulatory issues: What should I do now?

This talk covers some of the most common issues encountered by optometrists in everyday practice, and includes practical advice on how to deal with them in a way which protects the patient, the practice and the practitioner. The questions we will discuss are based on queries the AOP’s regulatory team receives from members on a daily basis, including:

  • Do I need to report a patient who refuses to stop driving?
  • Who is responsible for ensuring repeat tests are done? 
  • How do I refer patients safely?
  • How can I comply with GDPR? 
  • What do I need to record?

Please note that these seminars are repeated throughout the year in different location and therefore points will only be awarded once.
