These seminars will provide members with an opportunity to meet the AOP’s clinical and legal experts and gain a unique insight into how best to manage the many different risks associated with optometric practice.  These seminars are designed to provide the support and guidance needed to help protect yourself, your practice and your patients.

Please note that the legal seminars are running the same employment matters/regulatory content as 2019. You may not be eligible for the CET for this session if you have already attended. The clinical negligence session is new for 2020.

Clinical negligence: The sixth sense or spotting the plot twist?

Unusual clinical presentations can lead to civil negligence claims. This session will cover some of the more unusual cases the AOP legal team see to discuss if there were opportunities to detect them earlier.

Employment matters: Good management and disputes in the workplace

This session will provide practical guidance on a range of common employment issues: 

  • Locum and employment contracts – can locums ever claim employment rights?
  • Responding to complaints –  practitioners’ rights when faced with internal investigations and tips for a fair disciplinary procedure
  • Health issues – how practitioners can obtain support and reasonable adjustments and how employers can follow a fair internal process
  • Flexible working – practitioners’ rights and common pitfalls for employers and how to avoid them
Please note that these seminars are repeated throughout the year in different locations and therefore points will only be awarded once.
