Nominations opened at 10am on 1 May 2019 and closed at 5pm on Wednesday 31 July.
For each category, nominators are required to answer three questions as to why they believe the nominee should win the award. They will also need to provide a biography and supporting photo of the nominee.
For Frame of the Year, a manufacturer can submit up to three frames, but they must be different brands. We also strongly recommend sending a physical sample to the AOP offices.
There is the option to provide additional supporting information for the nomination. This should be a maximum of two sides of A4 and should include anything the nominator feels will enhance their nomination. Due to the number of nominations we receive, anything over two sides of A4 will not be submitted to the judges. For more information on supporting information please see the terms and conditions.
All nominations submitted are reviewed by our expert panel of judges from across the sector. See Meet the judges.
For each category, two judges will review the submissions separately, select a list of finalists and rank them based on the content of the submission (e.g. 1 = top ranking, 10 = lowest ranking). Please note that not all nominees will make it onto the list of finalists.
The lists of finalists are submitted to the Head Judge who combines the scores to create a final judged ranking.
The Lifetime Achievement Award is selected by an AOP panel, including our Chief Executive and Chair.
Voting opened in all categories on 1 October 2019. 13 out of 15 categories will be open to public vote, with patients and practitioners invited to take part, while Frame of the Year and Product of the Year are voted for exclusively by AOP members.
To cast your vote, please visit our dedicated voting site and have your say in who should win an AOP Award 2020. We strongly encourage voting online!
Finalists will also be able to collect votes from their colleagues, patients and contacts using a hard copy voting form. This will be sent directly to the finalists once voting has opened and will need to be sent directly to our third party provider, Mi-Voice, before the voting deadline.
All votes will be verified by Mi-Voice.
Voting closes at 5pm on Wednesday 19 December 2019 for all categories.
The public vote will be converted into a ranking (e.g. 1 = top ranking, 10 = lowest ranking). This will be combined with the judges' ranking to determine the winner.
The winner for each category, excluding the Lifetime Achievement Award, will be the finalist with the top combined ranking from the judges and the public vote.
In the event that there are multiple finalists with the same lowest ranking, the winner will be determined by the finalist with the highest number of public votes.
The winners of the AOP Awards 2020 will be announced at the awards ceremony and gala dinner on Sunday 26 January. More information on how to book your tickets to join us in celebrating excellence in the optical sector will be available shortly.
