Specsavers optometrist recognised by the Macular Society Awards

Sarah Burchett named Optometrist of the Year in the charity’s annual awards

Macular Society's 'Optometrist of the Year'

Optometrist Sarah Burchett has been named Optometrist of the Year at the Macular Society’s annual Awards for Excellence ceremony, which was held in London last month (24 September).

Ms Burchett, who is a store director at Specsavers’ Guernsey practice, was nominated for the accolade by the co-founder of the Macular Society’s Guernsey support group, Bill Gardiner.

As director of Specsavers’ Guernsey branch, Ms Burchett supports the local group, and in March, the practice donated £1 from every sight test performed to the Society.

Chairman of the Macular Society, John Dunston, explained: “Sarah was nominated because of her unstinting support for our local Macular Society support group and her willingness to raise awareness of macular conditions. She also regularly raises money for the Society and the judges said she had demonstrated exceptional commitment to community engagement.”

Speaking about winning the accolade, Ms Burchett said: “As a team we’re over the moon, it’s really great, especially that a member of the Macular Society in Guernsey nominated us.”

Reflecting on the awards evening, she added: “It was one of the most inspirational events I have ever attended, receiving the award on behalf of the store team was very humbling.”

A second Optometrist of the Year accolade was awarded to Graeme Clark from Clark Optometrists in Kirkwall, Orkney.
