We are looking for passionate members to put themselves forward to become AOP Council representatives. No previous experience required

Due to the ongoing challenges caused by the COVID-19 crisis, we have taken the difficult decision not to hold AOP Council elections in 2020. We will also move our AGM this year, which will now be held on 4 November 2020.

All current AOP Council members and the Chair will remain in position until 2021. Councillors will continue to represent our members across all geographical areas of the UK, and through all their career stages.

Council elections 2021

The next round of Council elections will be held in 2021. We aim to follow a similar timetable to previous Council elections, with nominations for elected and designated posts opening in February 2021, voting for elected posts in April, and results announced in May.

We will be in touch with members nearer the time with more information about the 2021 elections and encourage you to put yourself forward.

AOP Councillors have always had a vital role in helping us understand, respond to and meet our members’ needs. Their roles are more important than ever as we, and others in the optical professions, tackle the challenges brought about by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and look towards a ‘new normal’.

The work of an AOP Councillor

AOP Councillors represent members and help to ensure that members’ views across the UK and the profession are represented in policymaking. A significant element of a Councillor’s role is to communicate with members through various channels and to collate and present their opinions, interests and concerns at the three annual Council meetings.

Our Councillors also promote and actively encourage membership of the AOP, attend regional CET events, and refer members to the right person within the AOP to provide answers, advice and support.

Councillors have told us that being part of the AOP Council is a rewarding experience, with opportunities to develop new skills, network and to help bring about positive change to the future of the profession.
