OCT focus of first ever Optometry Today  CPD guide

Education supplement will help teams get the most out of their practice's OCT

CPD OCT news item
We’re excited to announce that this March, our journal, Optometry Today (OT), will include a dedicated Continual Professional Development (CPD) education guide for the first time. One of four planned 2019 CPD guides, it will focus on the use of optical coherence tomography (OCT) in practice.

The 16-page guide can be found in the body of the journal and will provide CPD for the whole optical team, particularly addressing the needs of front-of-house staff, dispensing opticians and optical assistants. Content will include myth busting and back-to-basics OCT information alongside in-depth articles for more experienced team members.

Dr Ian Beasley, OT Clinical Editor and AOP Head of Education, said that the guide was about enabling team members to work together to get the most out of OCT and communicate its benefits to patients.

He commented: “I hope OT readers enjoy our tailored CPD guide. OCT is still a new technology and many are just starting to discover what having one can mean for their practice. Our content is about giving staff the confidence and knowledge to recognise where using their OCT can benefit patients and the business.”

Commenting on future OT CPD content, he said: “We know the GOC are keen to see a shift from CET towards a CPD system and we hope to stay ahead of the curve by providing even more CPD than ever in 2019.”
