Parliamentary and Public Affairs

Under the banner of the Optical Confederation, the AOP works collaboratively with the Association of British Dispensing Opticians, the Federation of Ophthalmic & Dispensing Opticians, the Association of Contact Lens Manufacturers and the Federation of Manufacturing Opticians to represent the industry’s views to Parliament, Government, key policy makers and other stakeholders. Within this partnership, the AOP ensures it represents and promotes the interests of all its members in Parliament, Government and the Devolved Institutions of the UK, lobbying for legislative changes that will ultimately benefit patients.

We respond to consultations from Government Departments, Regulatory Agencies and other relevant bodies. We also seek to influence policy by providing Parliamentarians with detailed briefings, submitting evidence to Parliamentary Select Committees and by supporting the All Party Parliamentary Group on Eye Health & Visual Impairment.
