Applications are now invited for bursaries towards attending the Vision 2008 Conference in Montreal, Canada. The bursaries from the Janet Silver Memorial Fund are for attending the ninth international low vision conference on July 7 - 11, 2008. Applications in writing should explain in no more than 500 words how a bursary would benefit the practitioner in their career/clinical practice and how they would use it to benefit patient care.
The memorial fund is in honour of the pioneering optometrist Janet Silver who died last year. In a 30 year career at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London Janet expanded a small department of optometrists into a world-renowned visual assessment department. Sher was one of the first optometrists to become an honorary lecturer at the Institute of Ophthalmology and was offfered honorary life membership of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. She worked tirelessly to bring low vision services to developing countriesand collaborated in international research. She was a consultant to the World Health Organisation and the EU.

Bursaries will be awarded in the range of £300 - £600. Bursaries may be used towards conference registration fees, accommodation and/or travel.
