On 1st May 2007 Amicus and T&G Unions merged to form the new union UNITE with a combined membership of almost 2million members.
The AOP can provide membership of the Amicus section of the trades union for hospital optmetrists who are:
Paid-up AOP members AND Employees of NHS Trusts. (This does not apply to contractors)
In order to take up this additional membership benefit , at no additional charge, each indiviual needs to complete an Amicus application form, which can be downloaded from this page as a pdf file, and return it to the AOP offices.
Please note that in the case of any professional defence / indemnity issue or potential issue arising AOP members must always immediately contact the AOP legal department.
AOP members who choose to take up Amicus membership are required to advise the AOP if they cease to be employed in the hospital service. Please note that an Amicus renewal form will need to be completed annually.
Once accepted into Amicus membership you will be sent a union membership number, membership card and introduction pack.
