Public Affairs - The Negotiation and Legislation Committee
The Negotiation and Legislation Committee (formerly the Public Affairs Committee) consists of up to ten members elected by the General Council plus two co-opted members from the Central (LOC) Fund in their role as regional representatives of LOCs.
Functions:
to oversee the parliamentary, European and other lobbying activities of the Association
to deal with government relations, negotiations and representation of the profession to any other organisation or institution
to oversee the Association’s inter- and intra- professional affairs (for example JOCEU, ECOO, UKIPG, IPC, WCO etc.)
to advise on all matters concerning the National Health Service, General Ophthalmic Service and Hospital Eye Service
to co-ordinate and advise LOCs in England and Wales, AOCs in Scotland and the Northern Ireland Negotiating Committee
to receive representations from the Hospital Optometrists Committee on any matters within its remit affecting hospital optometrist members.
It has the following sub-committees and ad hoc groups:
The Committee meets three times a year (Wednesdays).
The Negotiation and Legislation Committee Chairman is Michael George, an optometrist working in Cardiff.
