There are a network of local associations around the UK which are often referred to as AOP branches. In fact these associations run autonomously, entirely independent of the AOP.
The AOP nevertheless supports these associations and urges optometrists to join their local one and to participate actively in the programme of meetings, courses and social events. They provide optometrists with a local community and the opportunity to meet their colleagues - vital for a profession whose members often work in relative isolation.
