Parliamentary and Public Affairs
The AOP represents and promotes the interests of all its members in Parliament, Government and the devolved institutions in the UK.
We respond to consultations from the Department of Health, NICE and other bodies. We also influence policy by providing Parliamentarians with briefings, giving evidence to select committees and supporting the All Party Parliamentary Group On Eye Health.
Wherever we can, we work collaboratively with other organisations to lobby for legislative changes that will ultimately benefit patients. We work closely with the Association of British Dispensing Opticians, the Federation of Ophthalmic & Dispensing Opticians and the College of Optometrists to represent the industry’s views to Parliament and other stakeholders.
In 2006 the AOP was a founding member of the Eye Health Alliance – a coalition of the optical bodies and other organisations with an interest in eye care working together to promote eye health for all.
