Healthcare Standards for Wales

In May 2005, Dr Brian Gibbons AM launched the Assembly Government's 'Healthcare Standards for Wales'. The standards came into force on 1st June 2005 and aim to achieve a number of objectives, including:

• bringing clarity and consistency to public expectation for high quality patient care across all healthcare settings;
• establishing firm foundations for continuous improvement in the delivery of all NHS funded care;
• providing a framework both for self-assessment by healthcare organisations and for external review and investigation by Healthcare Inspectorate Wales.
