The Department of Health announced a new three year deal for Sight Test Fees on 19th January 2009.

Under the deal the Sight Test Fee will rise by 2.5% to £19.80, backdated to April 2008.  The fee will then rise by 2.3% in April 2009 and by 2.2% in April 2010.

The domiciliary fees will rise by the same percentages over the three years, and with effect from April 2008 will be £34.87 for the first two patients seen at one visit and £8.73 for subsequent patients.

As a consequence of the 2008 sight test fee increase, the point of service payment for vouchers will rise from 4p to 5p.

The increase in the CET grant has only been agreed for 2008/9, and the payment, which is payable in 2009 for CET undertaken in 2008, will rise by 2.5% to £458.  The grant for the supervision of pre-registration trainees has also only been agreed for 2008, and will rise by more than 5% to £2,950.  There will be further negotiations in relation to both allowances in the coming months.
